The Benefits of Sump Pump Installation

It may not seem like flooding is that big of an issue in a place like Arizona, but it actually is. Your entire home may not be submerged in water any time soon, but it doesn’t need to be in order for some serious water damage to be done. Vulnerable areas like basements and crawl spaces tend to be the places that receive the most water damage during heavy rainstorms and the like. If you want to protect these areas, a great way to do it is by installing a sump pump.

Sump Pumps

Sump pump installation starts with digging a small pit at the lowest point of the area that needs to be protected. This pit is called the sump. The sump pump is then installed either in or directly above the sump. A drain pipe runs from the pump out of the home. As water flows into the area, it will automatically flow downhill into the sump. When the water level in the sump gets high enough, the sump pump will activate and pump the collected water out of the house.

It only takes a small amount of water in the wrong place to cause quite a bit of damage, requiring expensive remediation efforts. A sump pump is designed to protect against this by constantly emptying an area of water that flows into it. It won’t be enough to protect against severe flooding, unfortunately. However, anything short of a monsoon will likely be handled just fine. If you need to protect an area of your home from water damage, a sump pump is a very good way to do it.
