Signs You Need a New Water Heater

Water heaters are built to last a while, but they don’t last forever. Sooner or later you’re going to run into a problem that can’t be fixed, and that’s when you need to replace the system. The sooner you can identify that your water heater is nearing the end of its life, the sooner you can have it replaced with a new one. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you need a new water heater.

Loss of Output

The older and more worn out a water heater gets, the less able it’s going to be to cope with demand. Of course, any water heater can eventually become exhausted if you put enough demand on it for a long enough period of time. If your water heater can’t even muster enough for a hot shower, however, it means that you probably need to install a new one.

Although water heaters are sturdy, they still run into problems from time to time. The nearer a water heater gets to the end of its life, the more likely it will be to have parts break down. If you need to repair your water heater every few months, the time has come to install a new one.

The average water heater lasts right around 15 years. Some can last longer, provided their owners are willing to spend the money to keep them operating. Past that age, though, they generally become too inefficient to run properly. If your water heater is older than 15 years, talk to a professional about whether or not you should replace it with a new one.
