One of the biggest advantages, and disadvantages, of your plumbing and sewer systems are that they are largely hidden from view. This is great in terms of aesthetics and practicality, but it does make one thing more difficult: detecting problems with the network. Many plumbing and sewer line problems start out very small, and only show symptoms once they have proceeded to damage the system. In order to catch these problems in time, you’re going to need a specialized procedure. Let’s take a look at video pipe inspection, and why you should schedule it at least once a year.
What is it?
Video pipe inspection is conducted by inserting a long cable into your plumbing system. At the end of this cable is a camera, which moves through the system on a pair of motorized wheels. The camera records images of the inside of the pipe, and transmits them back to the plumber controlling it. This allows your plumber to identify any problems in the plumbing system as soon as possible, without having to tear up the home to physically examine the pipes. Once the pipe inspection is completed, the camera is withdrawn without any damage to the system.
Why You Need Annual Inspections
As mentioned above, problems associated with the plumbing and sewer systems tend to sneak up on you. If not detected in time, they can wreak quite a bit of havoc. As a precaution, you should schedule video pipe inspection at least once a year in order to identify new problems. Any further apart, and you run the risk of the pipe inspections not detecting issues quickly enough.
